Marble-Onyx Calacata Tropical

Additional technical information

This marble is a very thinmass (similar to porcelain) with a high silica content
( 15 to 25 % ) which gives it a greater mechanical resistance than normal marbles. Therefore this marble is much harder than most marbles found throughout the world.
Calacata is predominately white with various smooth green veins as well as blue veins occurring less frequency.

There was a company mining for gem stones, next to this quarry, therefore we believe that a fusion of these materials with the marble may have taken place thus presenting lines of white and blue quartz throughout the quarry. The quarry has veins of blue quartz throughout.  Calacata is present in 70% of the quarry.

Geologic formation of the Calacata Tropical

Marble as you know is much older than granite. In this particular situation, granite started coming up from the ground and encountered this mass of marble elevating it approximately 400 meters.

In the process of elevating the marble, the granite in formation fused with the existing marble thus adding mineral components originating from the granite such as silica and lodes or veins of semi precious stones like aqua marina.

The result is a beautiful marble with a white background and green veins with high mechanical resistance as well as being translucent. The marble-onyx has a resistance superior to many granites.

Calacata has a high silica content ( up to 25%) therefore it is very difficult to scratch and can be flamed.
As this marble is new on the market, we are discovering the various possibilities of usage for this material together with our clients. It can be used for exterior and interior cladding, flooring for heavy traffic areas, bathroom vanities, and kitchen applications.
